Jay Cutler Calls Out Philip Rivers

Jay Cutler and Philip Rivers aren’t the best of friends. The two AFC West quarterbacks exchanged heated words on the football field in December 2007, with Rivers jawing at Cutler on national TV. Since then, the Broncos-Chargers rivalry reached another level.

Visiting on Fox’s The Best Damn Sports Show, Period, Cutler was put on the spot about his rivalry with Rivers. Not surprisingly, Cutler responded candidly. Asked if he thought Rivers was “kind of an ass,” (Ed. Note: Yes), Cutler laughed before stating the obvious: he and Rivers don’t exactly get along.

“We don’t really have a lot of contact with each other. It’s become a nice rivalry. We’re both younger guys and both on pretty good teams in the same division and get to see each other twice. I’m just not that big of a fan of the guy.”

Cutler continued, “I don’t like how he carries himself. I don’t like some of the stuff he does on the field.”

No doubt Cutler has plenty more he’d love to say on the matter. You can already tell this is going to be a big deal, but what is Cutler supposed to say? “I love the guy”? There’s no love lost between Cutler and Rivers, and that doesn’t appear to be changing any time soon.

    I think Jay-C should talk more with his play on the field. He is playing okay but has slipped of late. Confidence is one thing but too much talk can lead to… too much talk. The media is going to come to him more because of his honesty and that might get him and the Broncos in trouble. As KRS-One says, “Real Bad Boys Move in Silence”. All Ready!

    Maybe he should call out his defense while he’s being so open and honest? The sad thing is, if Ed Hercules doesn’t blow that call the Broncos would be in 2nd place. Not to mention Cutler doesn;t handle himself well on or off the field as evidenced by this interview.

    But at least he has a stronger arm than Elway. He’s good, but he should shut his mouth.

    I love it. Jay is young and speaks his mind. In this day of PC speech, I rather a guy be honest. I think Jay shows restraint and just tells it how it is. It’s not like he started going all TO/Meshaun on Rivers. He just said he doesn’t care for Rivers. This will make their rivalry even better. I like it better when players hate each other!

    Yea he needs to worry about the on the field stuff but i also like to see this come out. Just say what you really think and let the “media” worry about how right/wrong/etc. it is. I agree with him so i dont think there is a problem with it.

    jason – I don’t remember Hochuli taking out San Diego defenders when the Broncos scored the TD to beat the Chargers – they still had a chance to stop them and didn’t

    as for Cutler – I agree with him about the way Rivers carries himself on the field. Rivers has no class. The stuff between him and Cutler wasn’t the only time he’s acted like that on the field. He reminds me of Ryan Leaf in terms of maturity.

    He was asked a question and gave an honest answer. Im a fan of cutler’s candid responses and dont think too much should be taken from them. Im w/ kyle whats he supposed to say. He was asked about the QB from a competitive/rival team in the same division. I would have been disappointed if cutler down played or dodged his rivalry with rivers. Rivers does suck. Who wouldnt say that if given the opportunity.

    well that’s just stoked the fire for when the broncos and chargers play each other two more times this year. Yes i said two more times! And i also don’t think we’ve seen the last of jacksonville either.

    I do like his honesty but there was probably a classier way to say what he said.

    Cutler doesnt like rivers because without that blow call by ed Hochuli Rivers would be 5-0 against cutler. Cutler needs to stop saying he is better than Elway and play some ball.

    I think every starting QB/star player is going to have to talk to the media, that is how this game is trumped up into the #1 sport, plus sport show hosts make a living by setting up non-polished-public speakers with questions like this. I don’t think Culter is as smooth as Odama when speaking, which is a damn good thing otherwise I would dislike Culter too, and he would put me to sleep with his hollow BS. (and yes I meant to misspell Odumby’s name)

    Oh come on! We got an nfl insider here. This guy tours the locker rooms of all 32 teams? Thank god we have adam shefters little bro to give us the latest coaches poll of who is “the biggest punk” and “silliest hair do’s in the nfl”. Im sure this guy is a colts fan just because peyton manning gives the wittiest and most delightful interviews in the league and will always give a good showing on SNL. I think we will all be waiting for the next coaches poll from our insider. Maybe he can get a leak on who will be next on “dancing with the stars”

    I Think Cutler has a right to say what he wants hes thrown for over 4500 yards which believe it or not is way more than Elway ever did in his career. And if he says hes got a stronger arm then maybe he does but hes not gonna bring denver a super bowl if this defense doesnt step up there game. There ranked 28th in almost every catagory. The Chargers slaughtered them! The time of possesion was terrible and there was to many turnovers! I think Jay Cutler is gonna be just as good statisticly as John But time will tell i he can get it done with this defense and if John can do it i think Cutler can to.

    If jay threw for over 4500 yards he has the right to say the things he does hes the reason there this far and if he says he has a stronger arm than John elway then maybe he does. I dont think he can bring denver a superbowl if the defense stays this way but if John Can do it i think Jay can to.

    Who is the punk now Denver fans? I love how Cutler went around running his mouth before the last game of the season… it really fired up the Chargers to show that loser who is boss. I love this rivalry… and it makes it so much sweeter because Rivers always comes out on top.

    Thank you Denver for allowing the Chargers to make NFL history on your sorry ass team! :)

    PR is so much better than Cutler it is beyond me that anyone .putes this. Cutler will forever be a loser, but PR will one day win a SB, wheather it is with SD or another team. I am always disappointed that the people in the news medai conpletely forget about PR and only focus on Eli, Ben, etc. It burns me because PR is so much better than the two of them./

Do you know that Philip did not initiate the dispute between the two Qbs? Probably not, you probably also support the omnibus spending of Barack Obama, second generation of Russia’s Stalin. Get a life girl, PR has a family, JC does not. Besides, I don’t think he will be a Bronco nest year. Who cares, he doesn’t scare us his record is 17-20, zero playoff gmes. PR, alumni from my university NCSTATE, is 33 and 15. Much better than Jay’s 17-20 and no post season. Hey, it wouldn’t be a rivalry if it weren’t for Ed Hoculit, would it? After all, the record should be PR 6-0 and JC 0-6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I’m not a big fan of Cutler or Rivers but i think Phillip Rivers has put a low to trash talking on the field. I play high school football as a freshman Quarterback and we don’t do that on the field often, these are two grown men who should get over it and continue with there career and there life
